Este año empieza fenomenal participando en BYOB de Malmö en Stapelbäddsparken, justo debajo de un skatepark mítico, inmenso y glorioso (del que me gustaría hablar otro día). En un principio pienso proyectar unos cuantos GIFs de mi lista de obsesiones del último año (Milonakis y TODA su existencia, Azealia y TODO el cool surfeando sus dientes...) pero aunque no lo descarto, creo que será algo diferente...

This year starts great participating in BYOB Malmö Stapelbäddsparken, just right underneath a huge, glorious and mythical skatepark (that I would like to talk about it another day). At first, I think about projecting a few GIFs from my last year's obessions list (Milonakis and ALL his existence, Azealia and ALL the cool surfing her teeth...) but even still I don't reject them, I think it would be something different...

El actual contexto socio-económico ha conseguido, entre otros daños colaterales, vaciar multitud de espacios que anteriormente rebosaban publicidad y explosivos de mercado... Autocine reclama esos espacios de vuelta, transformando vallas publicitarias en pantallas de cine abiertas... una intervención in-situ con diferentes medios e imágenes en movimiento; la conquista del cine drive-in y el karaoke de guerrilla con diferentes colaboraciones en espacios públicos. Estas proyecciones y algunas cuantas cosas más se hablaron con unos cuantos comisarios europeos y educados artistas en Curator's Network, una grata carrera de speed-dating jaleada de arte y sopa de sobre.

The actual social and economic context had emptied spaces as a collateral damage of the times, leaving blank areas that before were full of publicity content and market explosives. Autocine (self cinema) tries to reclaim those spaces again, revolving billboards as open screens… a site specific intervention with several moving image mediums; a conquered drive-in cinema and guerrilla karaoke through types of collaboration within public spaces. All this screening and a few more things were discussed with some european curators and gentle artists at Curator's Network, a speed dating race cheered up with art and supermarket soup.

El lunes pasado estuve en UFI Madrid hablando sobre portadas de discos, desde las casettes caseras de mi preadolescencia (y la de casi todos) hasta el proceso de diseño actual, con toda la transformación en las herramientas y contextos que ha habido entre medias.

Ser "portadista" fue la primera idea real de trabajo que tuve en mi vida y aún hoy sigo pensando que es todo un regalazo. Y si mezclas PechaKucha y delproyectorsaletodomagenta resultará una combinación bastante precisa de lo que dió de sí la presentación.

Punto de Fuga

Si mis planes cuando era pequeño incluían llegar a ser espía y me salió regular, lo siguiente en la lista era convertirme en fugitivo por algún delito heróico, así que cuando me ofrecieron hacer algo para la cárcel de Segovia no me lo pensé dos veces aunque solo fuera para acercarme un milímetro.  

Desechada la primera opción de encerrar al visitante, decidí no tocar la celda más que para pintar en uno de sus muros una cruz que delimitaría su punto de fuga ampliando su perspectiva, donde un vídeo proyectaba diferentes secuencias de huída en bucle hasta desaparecer, compartiendo en su estructura los patrones de la fuga como construcción musical.  

Ya no sólo porque me dejara las tripas corriendo sino por el hecho de poder entrar en una cárcel con cierta tranquilidad, merece la pena ir. Además, en estos tiempos sobran motivos para echar a correr... Todos los fines de semana hasta el 5 de Junio.  Galerías, Cárcel de Segovia

If my childish plan included to become a spy and didn't really work out, next in line was to turn into a fugitive due to any heroic crime, so when I had the chance to work at the Segovia City Prison, I had no doubt about it.

Given up the first idea of locking the visitor inside, I decided not to intervene the cell except for painting a big cross on a wall, defining a vanishing point (punto de fuga) that would open its perspective, where a video loop projected different escape (fuga) sequences, sharing its structure patterns of the Fugue (fuga) as a musical composition.

Not only because I busted my guts on the run, but to enter a jail with some calmness worth the visit. And because there are many reasons to run away these days... Every weekend till June 5th. Galerias, Carcel de Segovia

Después de un concierto de Caballo Trípode en Madrid hace un par de meses, tardamos alrededor de medio minuto en empujarnos unos a otros a sacar adelante la portada de un disco ya grabado, con la única condición de jugar con la foto de los hermanos y otra con el Joni trepando una pirámide de autopista.

Mientras escuchaba las canciones me reafirmaba en la deliciosa idea que es trabajar para amigos con talento, mientras un hermano trataba de introducirle por las posaderas una bola de nieve a su otro hermano convertido en precavido centauro, en un extraño loop de puteo inofensivo habitual de Costa Este... porque Otrosí digo es un discazo de bigote fino a modo de hielito en gin tonic, elegante, muy blanco pero bastante cabrón.

Días antes de mi cumpleaños me dieron una copia, y cuando llegaron las doce de la fecha señalada, se convirtió en mi primer regalo de la noche. Cada disco lleva el título entintado a mano de 300 maneras diferentes y deberías escuchar parte ya aquí si quieres que el sol se cuele por tu ordenador, aunque lo suyo sin duda alguna es ir a verles tocar, invitarles a algo y comprarles una copia.

Right after a Caballo Tripode gig in Madrid a couple months ago, we spent around half a minute in pushing each other forward to complete the cover of a finished record, with the only wish of playing around with a picture of the two brothers and another one with Joni climbing a highway pyramid.

While listening to the songs, I was delighted by the idea of working for talented friends, while one brother was trying to introduce a snowball through his other brother's behind transformed in a cautious centaure, on a strange loop of harmless usual East Coast screwing... because Otrosi digo is a great record of thin moustcahe as ice cube on gintonic, elegant, very white but bastard enough.

Days before my birthday, I received a copy and on the special date at twelve o'clock, it became my first present for the night. Each record is entitled by hand in 300 differente ways and you should listen part of it here if you want the sun to slip into your computer, although a lot better is to go and see them play, invite them and buy a copy.

Cuando el granjero australiano Cliff Young se presentó en la línea de salida para correr la Ultra Marathon Sidney-Melbourne de 875 kms, nadie pensó que aquel hombre de 61 años siquiera aguantara unas horas... menos aún cuando apareció enfundado en un mono de granja y sus pies serían impulsados por unas botas de goma hasta la rodilla. Cinco días depués, aquel hombre no solo consiguió ganar la carrera, sino batir todos los records precedentes, durmiendo un total de doce horas y repartiendo su cheque ganador entre todos los participantes sin quedarse un céntimo.

Con el bueno de Cliff nace VltraYoung, el primer capítulo de The N-Spired Story, un proyecto que conecta historias extraordinarias, ilustraciones en camiseta, vídeos que saltan cuando apuntas con el móvil y acciones sociales que acabarán en un libro escrito por muchos alrededor del mundo.

Para VltraYoung y su desafío a la naturaleza, convencí a un colibrí forzudo para elevar durante cinco días el mayor pedrusco de oro jamás encontrado, una roca de proporciones extraordinarias cuyos kilates bien podrían esconder un enorme kebab en cuyo perfil se asoma una calavera mirando de reojo. Mientras batía sus alas, nos fuimos a celebrar ambas hazañas con un buen puñado de jóvenes jubilados que recorrieron 875m en una mañana de Cocoon atlético que nos dejó exhaustos.

Todo esto viene mejor explicado aquí, y está abierto a todo aquel con una buena historia detrás.

When the australian farmer Cliff Young, entered the starting line of the 875 kms UltraMarathon from Sidney to Melbourne, nobody ever thought that 61year old man, could even make a few hours running; even less when he showed up wearing a farm suit and rubber boots up to his kness impulsing his feet. Five days later, that man not only won the race, but broke any precedent record, sleeping 12 hours in total and spreading his winning check between every participant keeping no cent at all for himself.

With Cliff we start VltraYoung, the first chapter of The N-Spired Story, a project that connects extraordinary stories, t-shirt illustration, videos jumping out of your mobile and social acts related that will end up on a book written by many around the world.

For the VltraYoung and his Nature defeat, I convinced a muscular hummingbird to raise the greatest golden rock ever found, an extraordinary piece that could perfectly hide under its karats, a great kebab with a skull looking at the corner of its eyes. Meanwhile, we went to celebrate both heroic deeds with a bunch of young retired that made 875mts. on an athletic Cocoon morning that left us exhausted.

Partiendo como base de una montaña de altavoces, amplificadores, transistores... en definitiva una multitud de aparatos emisores de sonido (y ruido) me embarcaré en una gira subido a una furgoneta que pretende recorrer Europa durante dos semanas. La idea es ir parando en diferentes ciudades y localizaciones para instalar la montaña y en colaboración con artistas locales de cualquier disciplina, ir creando variaciones sobre sí misma. La base de la instalación es sonora pero el proyecto está abierto a cualquier tipo de colaboración artística por remota y absurda que pueda parecer. Al fin y al cabo, el arte contemporáneo se nutre de características similares.

El proyecto se financia exclusivamente de mis ahorros, y está totalmente al margen de cualquier organismo público o privado, pretendiendo ser una producción autogestionada e independiente, con una dinámica similar al modo de las giras de (pequeños) grupos de música (un bucle con variaciones parecido a conducir-descargar-tocar-pasarlo bien-dormir-conducir...) Al fin y al cabo, su finalidad última es la colaboración artística libre en un contexto de tránsito, mutable e infinitamente lúdico.

Se abre por tanto una convocatoria abierta a ideas, propuestas, espacios (públicos o privados, al aire libre o interiores...) y artistas de cualquier índole (sonoros, visuales, músicos, cineastas, patinadores...) que les apetezca sumarse en el camino y colaborar en el proyecto. Con anterioridad la montaña de sonido ha estado en galerías, escondida en un bosque, en el altar de una catedral... y actualmente una mitad se encuentra en mi cocina de Madrid y la otra en Holanda, punto de partida del viaje. A lo largo del recorrido se grabará todo el proceso con el fin último de montar un pequeño documental de toda la gira.

Si crees que de alguna manera te puede apetecer, involucrar, colaborar, o conoces a alguien que le pueda interesar, estaré encantado de recibir propuestas. Hasta ahora el único plan seguro es una simple y poderosa combinación de ganas, vatios y Europa en toda su amplitud. Poco a poco, espero ir encajando las piezas hasta el día que se encienda el motor.De antemano, ya te doy las gracias.

With a mountain of equipment built with speakers, amplifiers, transitors... definetely, a considerable amount of sound (and noise) transmission as a starting point, I will embark on a tour around Europe for a couple of weeks. The idea is to stop by different cities and locations to install the mountain, and with the collaboration of local artists of any kind or discipline, keep creating variations on the art piece itself. Although, the basis of the installation is sound, the project is open to collaborations of any kind, whether it may appear absurd or remote. At the end, contemporary art is fed somehow with similar characteristics.

The project is exclusively financed by my savings, and it is totally appart from any organism, private or public, pretending to be a self sufficient and independent production functioning with the dynamics of (underground) music bands, (a variable loop of drive-unload-play-have fun-sleep-drive...) at the end, its final goal is free art collaboration on a transit context, mutable and infinitely fun.

So here is an open call for ideas, proposals, spaces (public or private, out/indoor...) and artists of any kind (sound or visual, designers, musicians, film makers, skaters...) that want to board and collaborate in the project. Previously, the sound mountain has been set on galleries, hidden into the woods, on the altar of a cathedral... and right now my kitchen in Madrid hosts half of it while the rest is in Holland, starting point of the journey. Along the way, all the process will be recorded in order to edit a small documentary film.

If you think you feel like collaborating anyhow, or you know someone who might be interested, I will love to receive proposals. Right now the only secure plan is just a simple and powerful combination of enthusiasm, watts and Europe in its whole. Little by little I will be matching all the pieces till the day the engine starts. I already thank you in advance.

Epic, como suelo llamar cariñosamente al disco de Wild Honey vuelve para alargar su vida en una nueva edición tríptica (via Lovemonk). Al otro lado de las montañas y tras los corredores, la multitud se congregaba para ver un geyser de globos, mientras escribía todas sus letras para luego mezclarlas como si tuvieran algún sentido. A él le pareció bien.

Epic, as I usually call Wild Honey's album, comes back to extend its life on a new triptych edition (via Lovemonk). On the other side of the mountains, behind the runners, people gathered to see a geyser of balloons, while I painted all the lyrics in order to mix them up again, like having some kind of sense. He thought it was OK.

Desde hace muchos meses y aún hoy en día, soñaba leyendo sobre exploradores, conquistas polares y demás expediciones locatis en las que clavar la bandera suponía algo más que un largo camino. Mientras me imaginaba vivir todo aquello, me dí cuenta que había un montón de proezas cercanas, gente corriente que superaba pequeños (y grandes) retos y que en su momento, para ellos era como subir el Everest en patines y sin bombona.

Las Cumbres va de todas esas pequeñas victorias suyas, narradas a través de cinco banderas y cinco videos, que me permitieron durante unos meses dormir sobre el hielo, irme al desierto, colarme en un cine vacío y revivir canchas de instituto. Todo esto se presenta este jueves 27 en La Casa Encendida dentro de la exposición de Generación 2011.

For the last months, still nowadays, I was dreaming reading about explorers, polar conquests and other insane expeditions where to stick the flag ment always something far away than a long trip. While I imagine living myself all that, I realized there were many close exploits, average people overcoming small (and big) challenges, that for them seemed like climbing the Everest in roller skates with no oxigen.

Las Cumbres is about all their small victories, narrated through five flags and five videos that gave me the opportunity for a few months to sleep on ice, fly to the desert, slip into an empty cinema and relive highschool courts. All this will be presented this thursday 27th at La Casa Encendida, part of Generacion 2011 exhibition.

Porque Los Vivos han de Morir... (otra vez)

Los buenos de seriearte han montado una galería de serigrafías limitadas, de manchas amorosas hechas codo con codo. Cuando me invitaron a participar, pensé que lo que realmente me apetecía para aquello era sacar la calavera llorando dientes del plato y ponerla en la pared, a ver qué pasaba; ahora está impresa en grande y preparada en su galería on line. Si te apetece verla un poco más de cerca, el día 3 de Febrero se presenta la exposición en Cuervo, Malasaña. Y si no, a mí me queda alguna también.

The good people from seriearte had set up a gallery of limited silkscreens, of loving stains side by side. When they invited me to participate, I thought that what I really wanted to do, is to pull out the skull crying teeth out of the dish and hang it on the wall, to see what happens; Now it is printed big size and ready on their gallery. If you want to take a closer look, this Feb 3rd there is an opening exhibition at Cuervo Store, Malasaña. If not, I still have a few left.

El Ultimo Cañón del Año

Para el último cañón del año esta vez me bajé hasta Cartagena, ciudad que acogía la Manifesta 8 y que me tuvo durante una semana y pico volviendo al instituto cada mañana para ver crecer metro a metro un cono de metal. La pieza, rescata a escala los altavoces de latón utilizados en los barcos de antaño que amarraban en su puerto y su localización se eleva sobre los cañones de defensa mirando al mar africano, en el Castillo de la Concepción.

Y como casi siempre, lo mejor suele ser el camino, mañanas y tardes en el Instituto Politécnico, una protofábrica con una enorme pandilla de esforzados adolescentes, que acabaron siendo al final de los días como unos primos lejanos que te alegras mucho de ver cuando vas de visita. Esta vez, su trabajo valía para nota, por lo que bajamos al puerto a repasar, portando orgullosos las coronas de estudio...

Al gran Francisco, Elena, la clase... mil gracias!

For the last cannon of the year, this time I travelled down to Cartagena, venue for the Manifesta 8 that took me back to highschool again, to see a metal cone growing for a week and a half. The piece this time was shaped on scale as the old brass speakers used on wooden ships that came to the city shore, and placed over the war cannons pointing the african sea, at the Concepcion Castle.

And almost as usual, the best part is all the way before the end, days spent at the Instituto Politécnico, a proto factory witn a big bunch of hard working teenagers that ended up being like those cousins you feel happy to see when you visit. This time, their work went for exam and evaluation, so we went down to the harbour to get ready showing proudly their study crowns...

Hoy, el último día del año, he vuelto a leer todas y cada una de las entradas de este blog. Desde que empecé a escribir aquí, hace casi dos años y medio han sucedido mil cosas, mil más que se quedaron en ideas apuntadas en una libreta y otras mil que me guardo para mí.

Today, the last day of the year, I've been reading again every single post in this blog. Since I began to write here, almost two and a half years ago, there has been a thousand things happening, a thousand more written on a notebook, and another thousand that I keep for myself.

Because all I lived through these, people I met and situations I've been through, I can still say there is no single day that I say thank you. Today, I would climb up a zeppelin on the air, and paint on its fabric: Fortunate.

From Las Letras del Barrio, we open a Tipographic Market. The families from Graficas Almeida jump out from the drawers to dive into little boxes. El mismo día después de volver del desierto y aún con la ropa llena de arena, me metí en un avión directo a Holanda donde me habían invitado a rehacer Una Inconveniente Aproximacion... que ya monté el año pasado en OffLimits. Durante una semana recuperando peso en la Europa de más arriba y acogido por la pandilla chalada de Interference, me dediqué a buscar equipo entre tiendas de segunda mano, almacenes de la caridad, casas ocupadas y donaciones de ancianas que permitieron recopilar en unos pocos días lo que en Madrid había tardado unos cuantos años.

Esta vez, el equipo apilado en el Centrum Voor Beeldcultuur (Interference I) estaba conectado a un inflador de bicis, que era accionado por los visitantes cargando de energía el conjunto, siendo ellos mismos los responsables de generar la mezcla de emisoras, volumen y ruido... Como el tema de la exposición hablaba de Interferencias, pensé que lo más lógico era sacar a pasear todo aquello y provocarlas no sólo con el sonido sino también con el espacio, en la propia ciudad de Breda.

Para ello decidí colocarlo temprano en el altar mayor de su Catedral -Grote of Onze-Lieve-Vrouwererk- (Interference Test II) y acercarme al bosque -Teteringse Bos- (Interference Test III) con un generador, una gran idea para una noche lluviosa que casi me deja en el sitio. La verdad es que con ambas salidas me quedé a medias, correr con tanto peso y en tan poco tiempo no dió para mucho más que hacer pruebas, así que sobre Marzo volveré a recoger toda la montaña, meterla en una furgoneta y bajarme toda Europa en una gira de ruido caótica y divertida.

Sobre la epifanía de la Iglesia ocupada y su circuito de BMX intentaré escribir otro día.

The day after I arrived from the desert and with the sand still on my clothes, I took a plane to Holland where I was invited to rebuild Una Inconveniente Aproximacion... installation I made last year at OffLimits, Madrid. Gaining some weight in the upper Europe for a week and hosted by the crazy bunch of Interference, I had some fun myself looking for equipment through second hand stores, charity stocks, squat houses and elderly donations that let me put together in a few days what it took me a few years in Madrid.

This time, all the equipment was piled at the Centrum Voor Beeldcultuur (Interference I) and was connected to a bycicle pump that visitors used to generate energy, being also them the ones who activate the frequency mix, volume and noise... Because of the theme of the exhibition dealt with interference, I thought it was logic to take everything out for a walk in order to provoke them not only with sound but also with space, in the city of Breda.

For that reason I decided to set it up early in the morning in the main altar of its cathedral -Grote of Onze-Lieve-Vrouwererk- (Interference Test II) and go to the forest -Teteringse Bos-(Interference Test III) with a generator, a great idea for a rainy night that almost buried me. To run with that much weight with almost no time left me with a bittersweet taste, something enough for a test but far away for what I could expected, so in March I will go back to pick up everything, pack it into a van, and drive all the way down through Europe in a noise tour, fun and chaotic.

About the Squat Church epiphany and its BMX racing circuit, I will try to write it down another day.

Waiting for the Mascota

Sacramento suena igual que peinar a un perro mojado, como a trompicones pero con mucho mimo. Después de muchos meses, ya muchísimos desde que empezara y casi sin darte cuenta, todo esto finalmente acabó en un disco editado por nuestros grandes amigos de Sicofonías Paganas. Waiting for the Mascota va de subirse a un columpio que se cae a trozos, de novias en camiseta y de construirse tipis en el desierto con pasta italiana, del Altísimo corriendo la marathon y del verano escupiéndote en la cara.

El vinilo al final llegó por Junio y todos doblamos cartones, mezclamos la tinta e imprimimos portada tras portada sudando amor en un pequeño cuarto de Noviciado, hasta que nuestros calcetines se hicieron jacuzzi y no quedó mueble, ropa o papel sin mancha. Este viernes 26 a la hora del té (ballance) llevaremos cajas de cartones pintados de 10" al PrimaveraClub, y todo lo que hay dentro de ellos lo puedes escuchar y descargar gratis aquí.

Sacramento sounds like someone combing a wet dog, stumbling but with cuddeling care. After many months, many since this began, it all ended up on a record edited by our great friends from Sicofonias Paganas. Waiting for the Mascota is about hanging on a swing that is gong to fall apart, girlfriends on t-shirt and building tipis on the desert out of italian pasta, the Lord running the marathon and the summer spitting in your face.

The vinyl finally came around June, and we all folded cartons, mixed ink and printed record by record sweating love on a small room at Noviciado, till our socks became jacuzzi and there was no furniture, clothes or paper left without a stain. This friday 26th, tea (ballance) time will bring all these 10" painted cartons to the PrimaveraClub, and you can listen and download everything inside for free, here.

Tras ocho horas por el desierto desde los campamentos de Argelia, y medio kilo de arena en los pulmones, pudimos llegar a Tifariti, un extraño lugar del Sahara Occidental en medio de la nada habitado casi de puntillas por gente dispar y generosa en un cuartel surrealista, paisajes marcianos y un aire a Mad Max en lo que concierne a hierro y arena.

Hasta allí, y a través de los luchadores de Artifariti me llevaron para fabricar in situ durante dos semanas el Altavoz Saharaui (de la serie Cañones Acústicos), un nuevo cono basculante de unos 6m. de longitud de aspecto cercano a un telescopio y ensamblado a partir de material de desguace, carrocería militar y barriles de gasóleo.

Más allá de unos cuantos kilos de hierro soldado en el desierto, este altavoz intenta ser un canal alternativo para amplificar las voces, quejas y gritos de sus habitantes y nómadas, al margen de los medios oficiales políticos o de comunicación; Y cuando la realidad te explota en la cara, te aseguro que hay poca gente aquí arriba con más necesidad de ser escuchada que ellos.

A tanta gente, mil gracias!

After eight hours crossing the desert from the camps of Argelia and half kilo of sand in your lungs, we made it to Tifariti, a strange place in the mide of nowhere inhabited by different and generous people on surrealistic headquarters, landscapes from Mars and a feeling of Mad Max in the air concerning iron and sand.

So there and through the fighters of Artifariti, I was brought to build in two weeks the Altavoz Saharaui (Saharaui Loudspeaker from the Acoustic Cannon Series) a new oscillating cone similar to a 6m. telescope and assembled from scrap and junk material, military transport and gasoil barrels.

Beyond a few kilograms of welded iron in the desert, this loudspeaker tries to be an alternative channel to amplify the voices, claims and shouting of its inhabitants and nomads, aside from the official politic or communication media; And when reality explodes in your face, I can assure that there is very few people uphere with more needs of being listened than them.

Tras el verano... La Juventud Infinita (Extended)

La intervención de Juventud Infinita nace principalmente de la idea de los comportamientos en red, en concreto de los impulsos que motivan a la gente a participar en ellas; Impulsos como el exhibicionista, el creativo, el validador, el mantener lazos de afinidad... incluso el altruista son propios de este tipo de redes. (aquí el informe Groundswell via el gran Furilo)

Son estos impulsos los que marcan el punto de partida de la intervención, aunque trasladado a un plano más físico y "analógico", y cada obra por tanto contenida en la Juventud Infinita se relaciona de algún modo con uno o varios de estos impulsos; y todo dentro de un marco de juventud, por lo que los materiales empleados tienen que ver directamente con este periodo de vida en permanente estado de construcción (madera), desobediencia (spray) y celebración (confetti).

Cada una de las intervenciones han sido pensadas como elementos vivos y alterables, y se han construido con participación colectiva reclutada en red, trabajando bien directamente con sus propias manos, bien aportando contenidos. En algunos casos se ha pensado en obra que pide a gritos su modificación posterior y dada las características de la convocatoria y el orden de intervención se ha planeado más hacia delante que hacia atrás.

Durante dos semanas de trabajo in situ, se construyeron tres instalaciones grupales (La Rampa de la Victoria, Cámara Nido y Tracey Emin ya lo hizo antes), acciones diarias (Spam) y una instalación/vídeo (Juventud Infinita I) Además, previamente a la entrada en sala, se realizaron varios trailers a partir de videos caseros de youtube y en la inauguración final se montó un concierto donde se repartieron fanzines y medallas entre los asistentes. Esto se pareció mucho a la sensación de lo que era una casa sin padres, celebrando en caída libre la Juventud Infinita...

The project Endless Youth is mainly born of the idea of online behaviours, specifically the impulses that motivate people to participate in them, impulses such as exhibitionism, creativity, validation, maintaining relationships…even altruism is akin to this type of network. (here the Groundswell study)

These are the impulses that mark the project’s departure point, although transferred into a more physical and “analogical” realm. Thus, every artwork Endless Youth contains is somehow related to one or more of these impulses, and all within the framework of youth, so the materials employed are directly linked to this period of life in a permanent state of construction (wood), disobedience (spray) and celebration (confetti).

Each one of the productions was conceived as a living and alterable element, and constructed with the collective participation of people recruited online, working directly with their own hands, or by providing content. In some cases the artworks conceived required subsequent modification and given the characteristics of the challenge and the production order the project was planned forward more than backward.

During two weeks of on-site work, three group installations were built {La Rampa de la Victoria (The Victory Ramp), Cámara Nido (Nest Camera) and Tracey Emin ya lo hizo antes (Tracey Emin Already Did It)}, daily actions (Spam) and a video/installation {Juventud InfinitaI (Endless Youth I)}. In addition, various trailers were produced from homemade videos and YouTube and at the final opening a concert was held at the second floor where fanzines and medals were handed out to visitors. This was very similar to the feeling of a house without parents, a free falling celebration of Endless Youth…

La Rampa de la Victoria I

Bajo la presencia de un quarterpipe inexpugnable, de superficie poco amigable e impatinable coronado por un podium, se esconde una humilde sala de trofeos de diversa naturaleza; racimos de medallas, fotos, dibujos y zapatillas clavadas que nos recuerdan que tras la ambición de las metas enormes y ásperas, existe una victoria cotidiana más honesta y disfrutable.

In the presence of an impregnable quarterpipe, with an inhospitable and unskatable surface topped with a podium, there is a hidden humble roomful of all sorts of trophies: clusters of medals, photos, drawings and nailed-up shoes that reminds us that behind the ambition of huge and harsh challenges, there is a more honest and enjoyable everyday victory.

La Rampa de la Victoria II

Unos troncopatines se distribuyen por toda la sala invitando al público a intentar "patinar" la obra. Muchas de las fotos de la sala de trofeos salieron de una estampida fotográfica armados con cámaras deshechables por la ciudad y parte del resultado a su vez, acabó fotocopiado en las páginas de un fanzine, a modo de catálogo improvisado.

Some ‘trunkboards’ are distributed throughout the space inviting the public to try to skate the artwork. Many of the photos from the trophy room came from a photography stampede by people around the city armed with disposable cameras, that ended up being photocopied for pages of a fanzine, as an improvised catalogue.

Tracey Emin ya lo hizo antes...

Cuando supe de la intervención de Jacobo Castellano, y en concreto de Hello, my name is... con la caseta de feria y demás, inmediatamente pensé en continuar su obra añadiendo una inestable montaña rusa a base de astillas y restos de palés sacados de las calles (material del que también se nutre La Rampa de la Victoria)... pero vaya, resulta que Tracey Emin ya lo hizo antes (It's not the way I want to die).

En vez de desisitir, decidí seguir mi/su idea adelante aprovechando el intento de falso plagio para poner de manifiesto como en los contextos de red, se generan tal cantidad de imágenes e información, influencias dispares que recibimos a tal velocidad casi sin atender de dónde vienen, que a veces la abundancia provoca que se solapen ideas vistas con imaginadas, estilos propios con compartidos.

Al fin y al cabo creo que la autoría y la originalidad son conceptos del siglo pasado y la inspiración y la autoría compartida, (intencionada o no) es un claro signo de estos tiempos de inmediatez. Como era de esperar, El Tono acabó llenando las astillas de pintura colgándolas en lo alto de un muro y Juan López se hizo una buena hoguera con ellas.

When I found out about Jacobo Castellano’s project, specifically Hello, My Name Is…with the fair stand and so on, I immediately thought of continuing his artwork by adding an unstable roller-coaster made of strips of wood and parts of pallets collected from the streets (material also used for La Rampa de la Victoria)…but alas, it turns out that Tracey Emin already did it (It’s not the way I want to die).

Instead of giving up, I decided to carry on with my/her idea by taking advantage of the attempt at false plagiarism to demonstrate how in network contexts such a large quantity of images and information is generated, disparate influences that we receive at such speed that we almost fail to notice where they come from, that the abundance sometimes leads to an overlapping of seen and imagined ideas, original and shared styles.

After all, I believe that authorship and originality are bygone concepts from last century, and inspiration and authorship that is shared (intentionally or not) is a clear sign of the present age. As might be expected, Eltono ultimately filled the strips of wood with paint and hung them high up on a wall, and Juan López made a nice bonfire out of them.

Camara Nido

Más allá que las permanencias prolongadas en red pueden estar creando hikikomoris locatis encerrados en casa atados a una falsa sensación de hogar, las cámaras (web y digitales) se han convertido en elementos muy potentes en términos de construcción de identidad en red, produciendo personalidades incluso paralelas, a menudo sobredimensionadas, controladas y no siempre cercanas a la real; La sensacion de intimidad y exhibición se entrelazan mutando en algo que parece anidar alrededor de una cámara.

Si uno revisa su bandeja de correo no deseado, se pueden encontrar verdaderas joyas de la literatura postmoderna, titulares y frases épicas que merecen ser grabadas en bandejas de plata. Tras oleadas de falsos diplomas, relojes de oro a precio de saldo y lituanas cachondas, se esconden verdaderos tesoros que liberan a uno de estudiar durante años, ahorrar para el "éxito" o un matrimonio idílico de catálogo. Esta idea de spam como "error" en las redes, de aquello no deseado lo trasladamos al exterior, escribiendo con spray disléxicos titulares en su ventana de entrada, llevando la obra fuera de los límites de la propia sala.

This idea of spam as online “error”, of the unwanted, we moved into the exterior, spray-painting dyslexic headings in your inbox, taking the artwork beyond the limits of the exhibition space.

Juventud Infinita I

Esta instalación recrea de algún modo la idea de celebración de la Juventud Infinita, algo cercano al recuerdo de preparar una fiesta en una casa sin padres mientras levantas un campeonato del mundo. Para ello se montaron en la sala de arriba, blanca e inmaculada, cinco ventiladores industriales que removían gran cantidad de confetti mezclado con pequeños recortes de revistas trituradas de juventud.

La idea inicial del confetti en permanente estado de suspensión no acabó de funcionar, cuestiones físicas del aire que aún siguen suponiendo un misterio, pero algunos grandes momentos se documentaron para su posterior montaje en video. Todo ello sin embargo si logró que nadaramos en papelitos voladores mientras Grosgoroth tocaba sus gameboys

In a way, this installation recreates the celebration of endless youth, something like the memory of having a house without parents ready for a party while you raise a world championship cup. To this end, in the upper immaculately white room, five industrial fans were made to stir up a large quantity of confetti mixed with small pieces of shredded clippings from youth magazines.

The initial idea of the confetti in a permanent state of suspension never ended up working, owing to the physics of wind which remain mysterious, but some great moments were recorded for subsequent video editing. Nevertheless, the whole thing allowed us to dive into flying little papers while Grosgoroth played his gameboys.

M.A.D.R.E.

M.A.D.R.E. se presenta como una máquina decodificadora formada por dos módulos capaces de generar y alterar diferentes capas de sonido organizados bajo un panel de control. A través de este prototipo y su cuadro de mandos, usted dispone de una colección de botones y moduladores asociados a diversos parámetros que, combinados en la medida correcta, le darán la anhelada solución al enigma de la conducta humana.

M.A.D.R.E. estará aquí durante unos tres meses hasta que alguien resuelva el enigma.

M.A.D.R.E. is presented as a decoding machine built in two modules able to generate and alterate different layers of sound organized in a control panel. Through the dashboard of this prototype, you dispose a collection of buttons and modulators associated to diverse parameters that, combined in the correct way, will provide you the yearned solution for the enigma of human behaviour.

M.A.D.R.E. will be here around three months till someone resolves the enigma.

Ventiladores Violentos

Instalación resultante del taller realizado dentro del Festival Experimenta Club en La Casa Encendida, Madrid. El taller planteaba la realización de una instalación sonora colectiva en la que la participación directa de sus asistentes determinaría su apariencia final, las cualidades de la misma y su relación entre lo visual, lo sonoro y el espacio que ocupaba.

Partiendo únicamente de un aula, presupuesto cero y nueve horas para su desarrollo, se plantearon varias ideas que desembocaron en una instalación formada por dos ventiladores amplificados, cuyo sonido en uno provenía de un alambre golpeando contra sus aspas y en otro del movimiento de una carcasa defectuosa en relación a su eje.

Here is the result of the workshop we did at La Casa Encendida, during the Experimenta Club Festival. The workshop proposed a collective setting of a sound installation, determined by the direct participation of its assistants, whom considered its final appearance, its qualities and the relationship stablished between the visual, the sound and the space surrounded.

Starting just with one room, no budget and nine hours to develop it, a few ideas ended up with an installation made out of two amplified ventilators, which sound came out from a wire hitting against its blades, while a defective case was violently shaking against its axis in the other.

Los días 30 Sep, 1 y 2 Oct (de 16h a 19h) estaré dando un taller en La Casa Encendida dentro del festival Experimenta Club, donde espero construyamos entre todos los participantes una instalación sonora colectiva; esto es algo grande, ruidoso y masivo, y que a priori no tengo ni idea de qué aspecto tendrá ni a qué sonará, puesto que dependerá directamente de lo que entre todos se nos ocurra. Por si acaso, tengo un par de ideas... Me apetece un montón ver que demonios sale de todo esto.

On Sep 30th, Oct 1st and 2nd (from 16h to 19h) I will be making a workshop at La Casa Encendida within the Experimenta Club Festival, where I hope we will build with all the participants a collective Sound Installation; this means something big, noisy and massive that in advance I have no idea how it will look or sound like, just because everything will depend on the ideas we all will work on. Just in case, I have a couple ideas... I am really looking forward to see what the hell comes out of this.

Aprovechando la invitación de Las Letras del Barrio, saqué a la luz uno de los prototipos de Correveidile, la nueva marca de patines de alta resistencia y tradicional manufactura que orgullosos estamos desarrollando en GrGr. Este modelo en concreto dadas las características de la cita, lleva rotulada a mano la marca con letras del maravilloso Prosper, posee madera del barrio y su espíritu lo empuja veloz el mismísimo D. Leandro Fernández de Moratín:
"Ya que se halló decente el correveidile de los dioses, salió en pernetas con su caduceo en la mano y en la cabeza el acostumbrado sombrerillo ... y al atravesar un corredor vio venir un burujón de gente ... desmayada y casi moribunda, el peinado deshecho, el brial roto, y las narices hinchadas y sangrientas..."

This model in particular, due the characteristics of the show, comes with a handmade lettering Prosper style, wood from the barrio and a spirit fastly pushed by the one and only D. Leandro Fernández de Moratín

Ultimamente ya no me pasa, pero desde hacía ya mucho tiempo, desde la primera vez que me tocó posiblemente, el hecho de llevar puesta una camisa blanca me hacía albergar más que cierta elegancia, un extraño estado de alerta siempre cercano a gente casi desconocida en situaciones en las que prefería no estar.

Precisamente una camisa blanca, impoluta y planchada fue lo que me mandó Kalaf por via postal invitandome a participar juanto a Armando Cabral en la Boomshirt, una iniciativa de la Estoril Fashion Art Festival en la que tres juegan con una camisa radiante sobre el trabajo del otro. Así que entre ellos aplicaron unas sutiles bandas de pano di terra -tela de tierra- de Cabo Verde, a las que acoplé dos coderas bordadas con las que aminorar los daños colaterales de aquellas secretas batallas de ambos y sus crudas victorias...

It doesn't happen to me anymore, but almost since the first time, the fact of dressing a white shirt always made me feel more than elegance, a strange state of alarm always close to almost unknown people in situations that I prefered not to be in.

Precisely a white shirt, pressed and spotless, was what Kalaf sent me via post office, inviting me to participate together with Armando Cabral in the Boomshirt Estoril Fashion Art Festival, an initiative where three people play with a radiant shirt over the work of each other. So, after they applied a few subtle 'pano di terra' stripes -earth fabric from Cabo Verde- I did my own adding two embroidered elbow protections that could ease collateral damages from those secret battles of ours and their raw victories...

Hará ya tres o cuatro años, pasando por delante de una imprenta de la Calle Santa María, vi como resoplaba una máquina antigua y decidí entrar a preguntar qué demonios era lo que hacía aquello. Esta semana y en el mismo local, su hermana pequeña estará presente dentro de Las Letras del Barrio, una exposición de letras reinterpretadas por unos cuantos autores que han conseguido llenar la imprenta de algunas piezas notables.

Todo esto se inauguró el pasado viernes y se podrá ver durante esta semana hasta el domingo 25; se preevé un taller "old school" de composición de tipos móviles y un paseo con sabio. Cuando pase la semana y coja aire subiré un resumen mejor y más extenso. Mientras puedes seguir toda la info: aquí.

Around two or three years ago, walking by a store in Calle Santa María, I heard the hard blowing of an old printing machine and decided to come in to ask what the hell was that. This week, her little sister will be inside Las Letras del Barrio, an exhibition about lettering reinterpreted through a few authors that walked around the neighbourhood.

Last friday was the opening of all this and during this week till Sun 25th, we will have an "old school" typography workshop and a walk accompanied by a wiseman. Whenever I can breath after this week, I will upload a bigger and better report. Meanwhile, you can follow all the info: here.

Casi todos los jueves desde el pasado mayo, los entusiastas del CA2M nos han ido convenciendo para acudir a su terraza y reunirnos a celebrar la imperfección de un futuro al anochecer, en un 2010 más cercano a un Joselito en horas bajas que al sueño del robot mayordomo.

Para estas sesiones de júbilo, pedí a -casi- todos mis amigos que posaran para un cartel en el que se cocinaban naves con el rayo de una teta bajo la atenta mirada de científicos, gigolas autopropulsados, hombres rudos y nudistas de ácido. Hoy jueves 15 se despiden de todos en un último picnic que no deberías perderte. Hoy jueves toca Airwaves y eso te asegura un futuro cercano enormemente feliz.

Almost every thursday since this last may, the enthusiastic people from CA2M have been convincing us to gather at their terrace to celebrate the imperfection of a future at nightfall, on a 2010 closer to Joselito in a sorry state than the dream of a butler robot.

For these burst of joy sessions, I asked -almost- all my friends to pose for a poster where spaceships were cooked with a ray out of a tit, under the watchful eye of scientists, selfpropulsed playboys, rude people and nudists on acid. Today, thursday the 15th, they say goodbye on a last picnic you shouldn't miss. Today thursday, Airwaves plays, and that assures you a near future plenty of happiness.

Los buenazos de HTM presentan su nuevo fanzine con el alboroto que provoca la cercanía de un verano que se resiste y que empuja a las piñas a bailar claqué. En este segundo número (o cuarto?) la historia va sobre la relatividad del futuro y la recuperación de valores pasados de comunidad e intercambio. De todo esto me enteré cuando ya había mandado a mi jauría de perros dándole al pogo peleón, aunque al final, entre sindicalistas de juguetería, reuniones de paella, relojes de pulsera y cromos del surrealismo, algo de comunidad e intercambio desprende el sudor de estos animalitos; el futuro siempre será relativo.

The great people from HTM present their new zine agitated by the proximity of a summer that resists to come and pushes the pinneapples to tap dance. This second issue (maybe the fourth?) deals about the relativity of future and bringing back past values of community and exchange. I knew all this when I sent already my dogs packed into a fighting mosh, but at the end, between toy labour unions, paella meetings, wristwatches and surrealism cards, some sweat of community and exchange can feel out of these little animals; future will always be relative.

De alguna u otra manera y durante muchos meses, Guillermo y yo estuvimos compartiendo en su casa horas de grabación, mezclas y conversaciones absurdas sobre vecinos con sierras y campeonatos de orientación en Los Alpes suizos. Al mismo tiempo, este hombre con cara de niño se construía en su habitación -casi a escondidas- una gigantesca maqueta en miniatura que olía a tierra mojada y que acabó convirtiéndose en un disco llamado Epic Handshakes and a Bear Hug.

Bajo toda esa responsabilidad, me tiré unas cuantas semanas entretenido rebuscando en enciclopedias, revistas y atlas, tanteando cartones y llenando hojas y hojas con tinta... luchando incluso contra la extraña obsesión de acabar una portada que pareciera europea (?) y de meter a toda costa a un hombre negro en un disco tan blanco. Y así, hasta empaquetar en casi medio kilo a cinco atletas porteando animales mientras se deslizan corriendo por la gran montaña. Algo parecido a la foto finish del optimismo...

De todo ello y de la presentación de este disco han pasado ya unos cuantos meses, pero fue ayer mismo cuando me contó que estaba casi agotado y encargaba doscientas nuevas copias y eso son exactamente mil atletas más porteando mil animales correteando por la gran montaña. Me acordé entonces cuando oí nacer a la hija de mi hermano.

Somehow and during many months, Guillermo and I have been sharing on his flat hours of recordings, mixing and absurd talking about neighbours holding saws and orienteering championship on the Swiss Alps. Meanwhile, this child faced man was building in his room -almost secretly- a giant miniature maquette that smell as damp earth and ended up being a record named Epic Handshakes and a Bear Hug.

Under all that responsability, I enjoyed a few weeks searching for enciclopedias, old magazines and atlas, weighing up cartons and signing up pages and pages with ink... fighting against the odd obsession of a cover that could be presented as european (?) and to include no matter how a black man on a so-white album. That was half a kilo package of five athletes carrying animals while slipping down over the great mountain. Something like the photo finish of optimism...

There has been a few months since all this happened and the record was presented but it was yesterday when he told me that it was almost sold out and had to ask for two hundred more copies, what it means exactly one thousand more athletes carrying one thousand more animals running over the mountain. It remind me then, when I heard the birth of my brother's daughter.

En un alarde de inconsciencia y espoleados por el empujón de la inmadurez, nos han invitado a poner patas arriba la sala de arte de Avda América. Así, durante ese tiempo -casi dos semanas- y sin respiro, patinaremos con árboles, volaremos volcanes de confetti y destruiremos montañas rusas; Jugaremos a la estampida con cámaras fotográficas, trituraremos revistas y estiraremos la adolescencia como greasers manchando rodilla; la estiraremos hasta que se rompa... Y mientras me imagino cada uno de esos ratos entre astillas y pintura, pasarán los días y ya entre todos estaremos celebrando en caída libre la Juventud Infinita.

No soy precisamente un fan de Ryan McGinness en el sentido más estricto de lo que se conoce de Ryan McGinness. Sin embargo sí lo soy de cientos de sus pequeñas (y grandes) ideas, de su Selfsameness, de sus 50parties, de su equipo de fútbol en Chinatown... y de tener las pelotas de trasladar su estudio a Madrid y mostrarse bien abierto a los ojos de cualquiera sin dejarse nada escondido bajo su mesa.

Durante este último mes, tuve la suerte de volver de manera intermitente al colegio en este invento suyo de Studio Franchise, y así volver a estirar lienzos, mezclar multicolor en botes grandes de helado y deslizar tinta sobre planchas y planchas y más planchas de serigrafía... que siempre sin excepción, acababan reluciendo en las pupilas de todo aquel que clavaba sus ojos en aquello.

Y acompañándome en estas intensas vacaciones, la colección de manchas, el tapete de ganchillo -inspirado en sus cuadros- regalo de la madre del guardia, el ejército de voluntariosos asistentes y la clarividencia de un niño de ocho años preguntándole entre tanto utensilio, si alguna vez había visto un fantasma...

I am not exactly what you can call a fan of Ryan McGinness, in terms of what everyone knows about Ryan McGinness. Although, really I am of hundreds of his little (and big) ideas, of his Selfsameness, his 50parties, his football team in Chinatown... and also about having the guts to bring his Studio to Madrid and expose himself bravely to everyone's eyes, hiding no secret under the table.

During four weeks, I had the lucky chance to assist this kind of school comeback called Studio Franchise, and once again stretch canvass, mix multicolor in big icecream cups and slide ink all over screens and screens and more silkscreens... that always ended up shining on anyone staring at them.

And surrounding me, in these intense vacation, the stain collection, the table cloth crochet made by the guard's mother -inspired by the colour of his paintings-, the army of voluntarious assistants and the brightness of a 8 year old child asking if he had ever seen a ghost...

Drone de Acampada II

Supongo que ya desde pequeño, todo el mundo soñaba en algún momento con enormes cuadros de mandos cuyos botones hicieran volar naves y máquinas con luces que derribaran espías. Luego uno crece y se lía por el camino y la cosa no pasa de una feliz acumulación de aparatos y altavoces que remotamente serán un torpe amago de madre superiora de la astronáutica.

Gracias al esfuerzo de unos cuantos (dios, gracias otra vez), hace un par de meses me regalaron otra oportunidad juntando esa gran montaña de aparatos anclada a una tienda de campaña; Y al ir encendiendo uno tras otro, aquello empezó a oler a cuenta atrás mientras se iban sumando capas como en medio de un fuerte oleaje... hasta llegar a un punto en el que casi me creo que todo ese ruido dulcemente sería capaz por fin de volar naves y derribar espías.

A lo largo de este año espero poder meterlo todo en una furgoneta y llevarlo de gira por Europa; subir hasta arriba del continente con todo lo que me encuentre por el camino y encenderlo unas cuantas veces más junto a gente que lo encuentre tan divertido como me lo parece a mí.

I guess everybody had dreams when they were kids about huge dashboards able to make starships fly and machines with lights that could knock out spies. Later on, one gets messed up on the way and the whole idea ends up on a happy acummulation of apparatus and speakers that remotly could become a clumsy trial of the mother superior of Astronautics.

But thanks to the effort of a few people (god, thank you again) a couple months ago they gave me a new opportunity getting together that great mountain of machinery anchored to a camping tent; and by the time I was switching them on, one after another started to smell as a countdown while layers kept adding in the middle of a strong swell... reaching a point where I almost thought maybe all that sweet noise could really make starships fly and knock out spies.

Throughout this year, I hope I can pack it up into a van and take it on tour around Europe; get up there with everything I can possibly find on the way and switch it on a few more times, together with people who maybe think this can be as amusing as I do.

Este último Diciembre, formando parte de una extraña caravana acústica, los buenazos de In-Sonora me llevaron de campamento al norte de Marruecos, un país que bien puede presumir de una magnífica colección de cromos de su rey. En mi caso, todo pasaba por conseguir construir unos altavoces de entre montañas de caca, subirlos a las alturas y trazar una simbólica parábola que apuntara a nuestras casas; como unos megáfonos laicos a través de los cuales vociferar a gusto y contarnos un poco más unos de otros, mas allá de dramas migratorios, campeonatos de fútbol y montañas de hachís.

Así que sumando la ilusión de unos voluntariosos estudiantes de Bellas Artes y el impagable metal del patrón de una chatarrería, subimos a las azoteas y condujimos a las montañas aquellos aparatos bajo el gran diluvio, en un trayecto de furgoneta muy parecido a lo que debe ser traficar con cabezas nucleares. Otra vez, gracias por llevarme.

This last December, taking part of an strange acoustic caravan, the good people of In-Sonora took me to camp to the north of Morocco, a country that can feel really proud of an excellent picture collection of its king. In my case, everything had to deal with being able to build a few loudspeakers from mountains of junk, take them to the heights and trace a symbolic parabole heading towards our houses; a type of secular megaphones to shout through and tell each other something more besides migratory dramas, football championships and mountains of hashish.

So with the illusion of a determined group of Fine Arts students and the invencible metal from a junk shop, we climbed up to the roofs and drove up to the mountains under the big rain, on a van trip close to what should be to deal with nuclear warheads. Again, thank you for taking me.

Los primeros instantes de este año los pasé bailando con mi madre alrededor de una radio, junto a una lista de proyectos por actualizar ya de por sí agotadora (a mí me cuesta un montón escribir); sin embargo he querido esperar para que el primer post de este año sea éste, ya que aparte de a su hija, la generosidad de una familia sueco-española me ha prestado una caseta de obra en medio de las montañas de Guadalajara, de las que ya he coronado dos de sus ochomiles.

Así que ahi abajo en la caseta, mientras me imagino algo parecido a Buckminster Fuller afilando una piedra de sílex sentado frente a un decorado de peli del oeste, no se me ocurre mejor idea que llenar ChulaVista -ese maravilloso cubo blanco- de instrumentos y micrófonos, y altavoces, y aparatos con botones destinados a grabar sonidos de cualquier tipo; de llenarlo poco a poco de grupos y amigos que vengan a tocar y a vociferar himnos, mientras pasamos unos días hermosos rodeados de acoples y rifles de juguete...

I spent the first minutes of this year dancing with my mother around a radio, together with an exhausting list of projects to update (it is always a hard time for me to write); although, I wanted to wait for this one to become the very first post of this year, just because the generosity of a swedish-spanish family that besides their daughter, lend me a construction cabin in the middle of the woods of Guadalajara, Spain.

So down there on the cabin, while I imagine something close to Buckminster Fuller shaping a silex rock seated in front of a western movie set, I can't find a better idea that fill ChulaVista -that wonderful white cube- with instruments and microphones, and speakers, and machinery with buttons made to record sounds of any type; to slowly fill it up with bands and friends who will come over to play and shout hymns, while we spend splendid days surrounded by noise and toy rifles...

Si has llegado hasta el No.100 de WMAMSAF, entonces eso ya es mucho. También significa que han pasado 100 días desde que lanzamos la pregunta 'Que Lleva a un Hombre a Encender un Fuego'; y eso también es muchísimo, aunque aún seguimos buscando la respuesta. Por ello estás más que invitado si te apetece a escribir tu propio pie de foto para una/dos/varias/todas las imágenes (tienes cien diferentes hasta el 15 de Enero del año que viene) y esta aportación tuya, es parte esencial de toda la historia. Con esto llegamos al final de la primera temporada, y a ello le acompañará una modesta publicación impresa y una réplica bañada en oro del labio de Kareem Abdul Jabbar. Y esto último si que es imbatible.

Lo hagas o no, te doy ya las gracias por ello.

Something New in Chicago

Pues sí, hoy 11/11 debería estar en Chicago para Something New, un festival de arte bravucón que se celebra sólo durante 24 horas en la ciudad americana que perdió las Olimpiadas. Como no encontré forma más barata de viajar hasta allí me dediqué a mandar dibujos a domicilio a sus habitantes, buenas personas que probablemente nunca conoceré.

Tomando la idea del spam -correo no deseado- como la gran musa incansable, saqué los títulos que iba encontrando en dicha bandeja para hacer ilustraciones en tarjetas postales, y luego enviarlas de vuelta a personas escogidas al azar por todo Chicago, compartiendo así con ellos mis relojes guays de lujo, jarabes para la entrepierna y toda la flota de amigas lituanas en trikini.

Nikola Tosic de Something New lo cuenta así: " Sí, Something New no es sobre tener éxito en términos normales. No intentamos tener miles de personas involucradas, no lo anunciamos, nos centramos en los artistas haciendo su trabajo de manera independiente, y es en esos términos en los que se tiene éxito... No tratamos de conseguir una audiencia gigantesca ni mucha participación, eso es para las compañías de detergentes y los partidos políticos. Nosotros tratamos de hacerlo fuera de ese sistema..."

Yes, today 11/11 I should be in Chicago for Something New, a 24h festival of brave art celebrated in the american city that lost the olympics. As I didn't find a cheaper way to travel there, I mailed drawings -home delivery- to good citizens that probably I will never meet.

Taking the idea of spam as a great tireless muse, I took this titles found on the inbox to draw illustrations on postcards, in order to send them randomly all over Chicago, sharing with them my fancy luxury watches, syrups for the crutch and the whole fleet of lituanian girlfriends wearing trikini.

Nikola Tosic from Something New talks like this: "Yeah, Something New is not about success in regular terms, we do not really try to get 1000s of people involved, we do not advertise, we focus on artists doing their stuff independently, and in those terms you succeeded... Getting a large audience and a lot of participants is not what we do, thats for detergent companies and political parties. We try something else outside this system"

En 1952 un señor llamado John Cage se meaba en la historia de la composición musical, escribiendo una pieza llamada 4'33'', cuya partitura solo especifica su duración y que el intérprete no emita sonido alguno. Para algunos, esto seguramente puede ser entendido como una de las bromas más innecesarias y egocéntricas jamás escrita, pisándole los talones a "Merde D'Artiste" y cosas asi... Personalmente la teoría detrás de todo el asunto me parece estupenda, aunque otra cosa bien distinta es llevarla a cabo.

Pues bien, la pasada Noche en Blanco, empujado por la inconsciencia y armado de la tibia autoestima que confiere vestir con pajarita, me encontré estrenando sala de audición, sentado frente a un piano de cola carísimo con unas maneras quizá más próximas a las de un camarero buscando un récord que a las de un señor honorable sujetando un cronómetro. Y si la teoría mola, ni te cuento lo que es sentirse el anfitrión de toda esa tensión, escuchando durante exactamente 4 minutos y 33 segundos -casi- nada más que los ojos del público parpadeando, mientras pensaba en centurias romanas y astronautas padeciendo blackouts bajo una extraña sensación de imperialismo intrascendente.

In 1952 a man called John Cage overthrew the history of musical composition, writing this piece called 4'33", where its score was only determined by its length and the performer playing no sound at all. For some people, this for sure can be understood as one of the most unnecessary and egocentric jokes ever written, hot on the heels of "Merde D'Artiste" and things like that... Personally, I find great the story behind all the piece, although something very different is to bring it into action.

So the last Noche en Blanco, pushed by the unconsciousness and armed with the tepid selfsteem that a bow-tie can provide, I found myself opening an audition hall, seated in front of an expensive grand piano maybe closer to the manners of a waiter looking for a record than an honorable man holding a chronometer. But if the theory sounds good, imagine how you feel being the host of all that tension, listening during exactly 4min 33sec -almost- nothing but the eyes of the audience blinking, while my mind was on roman centuries marching and astronauts suffering blackouts, under a strange feeling of untrascendental imperialism.

Bajo este enigmático título se reúne una colección de fotos de un tiempo, en el que disparar era un acto inconsciente e instantáneo, casi de caza. Así, cada día, intentaré ir subiendo una foto sin localización ni información alguna; sin orden lógico, ni secuencial intencionado... nada más allá de lo que me vaya apeteciendo diariamente. Aquí habrá fotos malas y regulares, alguna buena. A ver que sale.

Under this enigmatic title, there is a collection of pictures from a time when shooting was an unconscious and instantaneous act, almost like hunting. So, everyday, I will try to upload one picture with no location or info; no logical or intentional order... except for how i feel everyday. Here there will be bad and average pictures, some of them good. Let´s see what happens.

Por encima de las mentiras piadosas, la diferencia entre una disneylandia lowcost y una realidad sin apenas dientes, se marca tan tajantemente como lo hace una simple cortinilla dividiendo las primeras filas de un Airbus; pues bien, si logras escalar por encima de ello, es entonces cuando uno empieza a interrogarse sobre todo el tiempo que ha estado perdiendo en su vida; o mejor aún, sobre cómo demonios no lo ha estado perdiendo en lugares como estos.

Y entonces, cuando tu ciudad se convierte simplemente en un nombre en un mapa, te pones a andar casi desnudo durante meses mientras las palmeras te aplauden, bebiendo Presidentes al lado de la selva mirando cómo tus amigos bañan a sus gallos de pelea como si fueran mascotas y observan sus machetes como si fueran cubiertos.

Bajo el susto del siglo se esconde el nombre de la gira europea que ha montado Belio para celebrar su décimo aniversario. Entre las más de 150 obras que se exponen se encuentra este gentil oso que dibujé con cariño, impasible ante el talento de los participantes y el fuego bajo sus pies. Su hermano siamés se encuentra en la misma pieza y ambos se parecen mucho mucho a los organizadores. Las fechas por ahora son estas:

Under the fright of the century it hides the name of the european tour Belio booked to celebrate its 10th anniversary. Among all the pieces (around 150) you can find this gentle bear which a draw with love, impassively facing the talent of the particpants as well as the fire under his feet. His siamese brother is also in the same canvas and both of them look pretty much similar to the organizers. The dates so far:

Si me esperaba ver algo así como a John Cage lanzando micrófonos como si fueran granadas de mano, me equivoqué de pleno. Porque fue todo eso y mucho más. Bajo el nombre de Ultra-Red se reúne un grupo de personas organizadas por todo el mundo en torno al activismo sonoro. Un concepto que sigo sin tener muy claro, pero que es algo así como sonidos con pelotas para ayudar a la gente. Y ambas cosas me convencen.

Su taller en el Centro de Arte de Móstoles fue personalmente revelador, y si ya tenía un pequeño ventilador en el estómago, esto lo ha transformado en el motor de un camión en celo. Aunque aún tengo más preguntas que respuestas, tengo confianza en que la revolución sea descargable.

If I expected to see something like John Cage throwing mics as hand grenades, I was totally wrong. It was that and far away more than that. Under Ultra-Red there is a group of people organized all over the world around sound activism. A concept that still seems not too clear, but it is something close to sounds with guts to help people. And both things convince me.

Their workshop at Centro de Arte de Mostoles was personally revealing, and if I already had a little ventilator inside my stomach, this transformed it into a truck motor in heat. Although I have more questions than answers, I trust a Revolution to be downloadable.

Este fin de semana se celebró en el Matadero de Madrid, la I Edición del D-Fest, un festival organizado por La Colectivo que celebra el DIY voluntarioso y de manga ancha, y que reunía a un montón de gente imprimiendo amor en papel y cassette. Mi abrazo fue a modo de rotulador con el título de Analogic Process Unit 02 y 03 respectivamente.

El viernes noche Sacramento acabó la noche tocando para los valientes, en una extraña mezcla de amplificación de karaoke lujoso y aporreo tercermundista; El día siguiente, ya más calmado, lo dediqué casi por entero a dibujar palabrotas en el taller de la Mala Letra que organizó el bueno de Sub . Tras un rato largo maldiciendo, todo acabó en un gran Cacafuti subido en lo alto de una loma como si de un irrespetuoso nuevo Hollywood se tratara. El domingo sólo logré recapacitar lo suficiente como para asegurar que sudé hasta los 100 grados; sí, sí, de los de la C.

Friday night Sacramento played at the end for the brave, on a weird mixture of luxury karaoke amplification and third world hammering; Next day, I almost dedicated the whole time drawing bad words in the Mala Letra workshop organized by the good one of Sub. After a long time swearing I ended up with Cacafuti on top of a hill as a new disrespectful Hollywood. On Sunday, I could only reached to assure that I sweat till 100 degrees; yes, yes, the Celsius ones.

Pacorro, en su estreno escocés, bebió barriles, cazó patos y ondeó su falda como si de una bandera se tratase. La próxima vez denle un palo y él solo recuperará Gibraltar. Glasgow está de acuerdo.

Francisco Díaz Pérez -Pacorro- nació ya matador de toros en Sevilla en 1897. Aunque comenzó a actuar con tan solo 11 años con becerros de menor respeto, la valía de sus inicios se fue diluyendo hasta caer en el desánimo en edad adulta. Seguramente poco consciente de la crueldad de su profesión y mucho del olvido de la afición, abrazó el escoch -scotch- como Sacramento lo hace ahora a los billetes low cost. Ambos estarán actuando el 13 de Junio en el Pato Volador -Glasgow, Escocia- junto a The Paraffins y Withered Hand, personas cuyos nombres provocan inquietud y sus fotos, simpatía. Sacramento no canta. No baila. No se los pierda (incluso tan lejos).

Francisco Diaz Perez -Pacorro- was already born as a matador in Seville, 1897. Although its career suddenly started when he was only 11, toreando minor respected calfs, its valuable beginning started slowly to dissolve into adult age discourage. Not really aware of the cruelty of his occupation and definetely about the fans oblivion, he embraced the 'scotch' as Sacramento does now to low cost plane tickets. Both of them will be playing June 13th at the Flying Duck -Glasgow, Scotland- together with The Paraffins & Withered Hand, people whose names provoke restlessness and his pictures, sympathy. Sacramento don't sing. Don't dance. Don't miss them (even so far away).

La revista Belio cumple años y se convierte en libro. Por ello, me han invitado generosamente a su fiesta con diez páginas donde se habla de algunas cosas que aparecen aquí y de algunas otras más difíciles de responder. (¡Gracias Elena!) Esto luego viajará hasta Barcelona, Bilbao, Berlín y algún sitio más donde espero nos podamos reunir todos y hablar de nuestras cosas mientras el arte nos mira desde arriba

We celebrate Belio Magazine's birthday turning into a book. Because of that, they generously invited me to their party with ten pages where to speak about some stuff you can see here and some other more difficult to answer (Thanks Elena!) This will travel later on to Barcelona, Bilbao and Berlin and some other place where I hope we all can meet again and talk while the art stands up there looking at us.
